Background: Global health (GH) focused learning provides significant benefits to learners and patients at home and abroad and prepares pediatric trainees to engage ethically in global health work. The Pediatric Residency Global Health Pathway (PRGHP) was dramatically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, prompting reassessment of all GH education initiatives. Since early 2024, GH leaders from diverse specialties at our institution have formed a committee to accomplish the following goals: to address on-going post-pandemic GH education challenges, to develop a standardized curriculum covering GH educational requirements for all Graduate Medical Education (GME) learners, to increase the focus on GH equity, and to provide recommendations for specialty-specific GH education requirements. While this group is finalizing the curriculum, an implementation plan specific to PRGHP learners is needed. Objective: The objectives are a) to adapt our institution’s upcoming core GH GME curriculum for pediatric learners, b) define pediatric-specific curricular elements for learners in the PRGHP, and c) develop an implementation plan of this standardized curriculum for PRGHP trainees. Design/Methods: A core GH curriculum has been outlined by the above working group. Pairs of GH leaders are now reviewing learning objectives and identifying available curricular content to form learning modules. As learning modules are completed, they are presented to the working group for feedback, and then a third faculty member provides detailed edits. The implementation phase of the project for the PRGHP will include reviewing learning module content and comparing materials to the existing pediatric GH curriculum while also using surveys to identify gaps in curricula. We will use this information to map out the optimal way to cover the core curricular elements for pediatric-specific learners and repeat surveys annually to track progress and inform future changes.
