Session

Description: The course is designed to delivering an overview of current research advances and clinical practice strategies in neonatal nephrology, including acute kidney injury (AKI), fluid balance, congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT), and understanding AKI as a multisystem disease. This session will also include clinical and case-based management of end stage kidney disease (ESKD), hyperammonemia, AKI/ oliguria, and critical congenital cardiac disease in critically ill neonates. The speakers will aim to help foster ideas for future research, quality improvement projects, and improved care.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will understand neonatal kidney function, the pathophysiology of neonatal AKI, impact of prematurity, and long-term implication of neonatal AKI
Upon completion, participants will understand the risk factors associate with neonatal AKI, the epidemiology & impact of neonatal AKI, and the impact of fluid balance.
At the completion of this session, participants will be exposed to common clinical scenarios in neonatal nephrology (CAKUT, ESKD, oliguria, indications kidney support therapy)
As part of this course, learners will be exposed to state-of-the -art topics such as neonatal ECMO as it relates to nephrology (AKI, fluid balance, kidney replacement therapy), managing babies with critical congenital heart disease and neonatal kidney renal support therapy.
