Effective communication is an essential component of pediatric care where providers must partner with patients and families within healthcare settings. Although many studies have demonstrated that effective communication skills may improve patient outcomes and facilitate provider-patient relationships, many clinicians still desire practical strategies to implement these communication skills. In this 90-minute workshop we will center conversations on navigating three provider-patient communication themes: miscommunication, expectation management, and language/cultural barriers. Participants will observe simulated scenarios within these three themes, discuss with fellow participants best communication strategies to apply, and leave with practical toolkits to be immediately applied to their clinical practice.
