Many studies suggest that to achieve a sense of wellness and job satisfaction, it is essential to be in a role where the assigned tasks are meaningful and aligned with one's core values. The Faculty Development and Well-Being and Vitality SIGs invite you to join us in our workshop to discuss a values-based approach to negotiating for the career you really want. Our workshop will address three topics: Clarifying Core Values, Job Crafting to Optimize Your Career, and Strategies for Negotiating Toward Ideal State.
A core values clarification exercise will help participants identify their own values, priorities, and life goals. The framework of job crafting will then be introduced to help participants mindfully redesign their roles to ensure they are meaningful and aligned with values. Job crafting involves three key components: task crafting, relational crafting and cognitive crafting. After being introduced to the concept, workshop participants will work in pairs to apply this concept to their own job tasks. With areas of desired change identified, participants will learn how to negotiate to create the career that is in alignment with their values and goals. Participants will practice utilizing negotiation strategies in small groups and leave prepared to use these skills at their own institutions.
