Workshop Description: Have you ever experienced the following:
• “No one told me about this change!?”
• “We had a great new process, but no one is doing it”
• “I thought we solved that problem but here it is again!”
… if so, come learn how to implement solutions that last.
Change is difficult but improvement is exciting. Our routines make it hard to sustain the gains, especially in high-stake environments such as healthcare, where improving outcomes while avoiding harm is critical. Intentionally preparing an implementation strategy early in the Planning phase of a Plan-Do-Study-Act improvement cycle is more effective than waiting until the Do phase.
This session will focus on how to create implementation strategies to sustain change and achieve desired outcomes without wasting time and effort. Participants will learn how to create communication, education, and audit plans using the CFIR (Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research) framework to ensure long-term implementation success.
A didactic section will teach basic concepts of the CFIR framework and important implementation concepts including common causes of implementation failures to avoid. We will then use a scenario to move through a hands-on activity in small groups where participants will practice implementation planning to strategize the roll-out of a new cell-phone free policy to regional schools. Specific planning tools and templates will be shared for participants to use and/or adapt to their own local needs.
