Workshop Description: As pediatricians, we occasionally face difficult communication situations during family-centered rounds (FCR). These challenges may include interacting with a frustrated parent, delivering bad news, or disclosing medical errors. Debriefing after such events can be a valuable tool, helping learners and observers reflect, process emotions, and analyze the communication challenges encountered. Numerous studies have demonstrated the benefits of integrating debriefing practices from simulation into clinical settings. This workshop aims to equip participants with the tools and strategies needed to effectively facilitate debriefings following challenging communication events.

Learning Objectives:

Explain the importance of debriefing and how it can be a powerful tool to help learners process emotions, especially following charged or difficult conversations.
Describe how to create a safe space for learners before debriefing and explain the 3 phases of debriefing.
Apply debriefing skills to clinical scenarios and feel comfortable implementing debriefing into clinical practice.
