I am a Neonatologist and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota. My research interest is in optimizing the care of neonatal jaundice in at-risk populations, including the preterm population and also infants in low-resource centers globally. I use an animal model of preterm neonatal jaundice to study the effects of bilirubin and phototherapy on the developing hippocampus. I also use metabolomics studies in human peripheral biofluids to evaluate for possibile biomarkers of bilirubin and phototherapy-associated neurotoxicity vs. protection. I enjoy collaborating with a research group in Nigeria to prevent Kernicterus for at-risk infants.
