Session Description: Over the course of this 4-hour session, we will provide a comprehensive overview of how artificial intelligence is poised to fundamentally change the nature of academic neonatology. This session is designed for learners at all stages; a technical background is not necessary. In addition to exploring the current state of the art, we will also discuss misconceptions, skepticism, and potential regulatory implications. Ample time for Q&A is provided throughout the session.
We will start with an introduction to AI and then cover three key areas: a) obtaining and handling data, b) practical application of AI tools to clinical problems, and c) interpreting AI research papers. Before lunch, we’ll dive into ChatGPT, discussing its use in writing papers, clinical guidelines, and letters of recommendation, along with ethical considerations. Participants are encouraged to bring laptops to experiment with these tools.
After lunch, we will host an AI competition where teams of researchers tackle a NICU problem using a provided dataset. Each team will present their model, explaining the theory behind their approach, aiming to win over the audience, who will vote on the most convincing solution. Moderators will announce the most accurate model, and a winner will be crowned. We will conclude with a networking reception, where likeminded individuals can connect and foster future collaborations. Pre-session coffee and a box lunch are included.
