Workshop Description: This highly interactive workshop led by pediatric residents, subspecialty fellows and faculty is designed to empower participants to co-create a robust institutional fellowship core curriculum and plan implementation strategies by drawing on successful models from three leading pediatric institutions with a centralized core curriculum for fellows.
Building off the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s recent work on the US Pediatric Subspecialty Workforce, this session will describe the process of creating a fellow-specific core curriculum critical for all pediatric subspecialties, with content including mental health, population health equity, antiracism and microaggressions, provider well-being, safety and quality improvement, research and education. By developing shared resources, institutions can reduce the burden on individual faculty and create a more efficient, scalable curriculum for all fellows.
Through a SOAR analysis, attendees will identify the strengths, opportunities, aspirations, and results achievable within their institutions and training programs while gaining insights from the experiences of established programs. In several small group activities, participants will design a fellow core curriculum that is relevant and essential to all pediatric subspecialties, ensuring the future pediatric subspecialty workforce is fully equipped to meet the demands of modern healthcare.
Participants will leave with actionable tools to develop and implement a tailored core curriculum for fellows at their own institutions and may receive ongoing support from workshop leaders to help bring their curriculum vision to life.
