Workshop Description: In this interactive workshop, participants will explore the critical role of modeling in medical education, grounded in Bandura’s Social Learning Theory. The session will guide attendees through the theory and practice of deliberate role-modeling, highlighting how educators can shape learners' professional development through explicit behaviors and attitudes. Participants will reflect on their own role-modeling practices and learn strategies to make the implicit explicit, ensuring positive learning experiences that align with desired professional behaviors.
The workshop will cover both learner and teacher perspectives on role modeling, utilizing case studies, discussions, and practical exercises to emphasize the impact of attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation in clinical settings. Special attention will be given to the hidden curriculum—how unspoken actions and attitudes affect learning—and how to consciously foster a positive educational environment. Participants will leave with actionable insights and a personal goal for applying these strategies in their daily teaching, contributing to the development of future healthcare professionals.
This workshop is ideal for faculty, clinical preceptors, and residents interested in honing their teaching skills and creating more meaningful, reflective learning experiences for students.
